Most experts agree that burglars almost always target a home without security systems. According to a study by the University of North Carolina, 83% of burglars say they check for a camera and alarm system before entering a home, and most won’t break in if such a system is in place. Similarly, police report that burglars are 2.7 times less likely to break into homes with security systems. These surveys all say the same thing, that a security system significantly reduces the risk of home invasion.
